Since coming on the scene in 2009, Models for Charity has been a leader in ‘giving in STYLE’ and making a real impact in the Triangle community. On January 19th, 2011 Models for Charity hosted their 2nd anniversary fashion show and gala on the 15th floor of the CapTrust building in NorthHills Raleigh. The event was sponsored by Mia Francesca, Reliable Jewelry, and Park & Market. Guests arrived at the gala dressed in their most stylish attire, and enjoyed complimentary hors d’oeuvres prepared by Tobacco Road, Solomons, Babylon, and Ruby Cakes.
Guest Host Troy Jacques Jermain opened the event by introducing the President of Models for Charity Michelle Congleton. Michelle thanked everyone for coming, and stated “this show is a celebration of two years of hard work to raise money for Triangle charities.” She encouraged the guests to bid in support Interact of Wake County, which was the benefactor of the silent auction and a portion of the evening’s proceeds. Interact representative Susan Kornett thanked their many community partners who included Models for Charity, the Easter Seal, and Legal Aid of NC. Interact’s diligence in community leadership has helped over 6000 residents of Wake County annually, who have been negatively affected by sexual and domestic violence, and have more than doubled their emergency beds in aid of these families.
MFC showed what they do best and kicked off their annual fashion show with Scout & Molly’s, Clothes Hound, Dress., Whalebone, Hayley’s, and Wardrobbe. Local fitness model Nancy Nickel opened the Omega Sports showcase, alongside professional soccer player Sean O’Conner of the Carolina Railhawks. Nancy’s journey to fitness has recently been showcased in the nationally published Oxygen Magazine. A round of applause from the audience was received with the Saks 5th Avenue Andy Warhol inspired number which included a robin’s egg blue sweater and matching glasses. The Art of Style boutique, owned by local stylist and renowned civic duties leader Kendra Leonard, ended the fashion show with all of the MFC board members showcasing styles from many local designers.
Many social and civic leaders were in attendance of the gala like 2010 Entertainer of the Year recipient Sanjay Matai, and James Grosslight took some time before the show for a photo opportunity with founder Michelle Congleton. Michelle was thrilled her father Mort Congleton was in attendance, and stated “As former city councilman, and current VP at Wake Tech, my father has been a social leader in the community for over 30 years. It really means a lot that he is able to make it to my events, and support me.” This evening is about joining together and making an impact in the lives of the Triangle community.
